FacePe Payment.

Face-authenticated payment experience focused on speed, trust, and accessibility at the point of sale.

Overview Brief

FacePe is a face-authenticated payment experience designed for the point of sale — built around sub-second authorisation, clear trust signals, and accessible fallbacks for users who can't or won't use card or phone.

03Problem

What was broken

Card and PIN checkout is slow — queues build at peak. Need sub-3-second authentication customers actually trust with biometric data. Tension: speed vs. trust vs. accessibility, all at once.

04Approach

How I worked it

4 decisions

  1. 01

Interviewed cashiers and shoppers — trust, not speed, was the #1 adoption blocker.

  2. 02

Designed explicit consent flow + live feedback states (scanning / matched / failed) so user always knows what the camera is doing.

  3. 03

Used motion cues to reduce perceived wait time during auth.

  4. 04

Built accessible fallback path for failed scans — no dead ends, always a way to complete payment.

05Outcome

What it shipped

TODO: real metric — auth time, match success rate, or pilot result. Placeholder qualitative: shipped clickable prototype validated in stakeholder review; consent pattern adopted as team standard.

06Reflection
Trust UX mattered more than raw speed UX. Next iteration: test under low-light store conditions and edge-case faces.
08Research Challenge
How do you replace card-tap with a face scan without sacrificing the trust signals shoppers rely on at the till?
Strategic Target

The Objective

Deliver a confident, transparent payment flow that handles success, failure, and retry in under four seconds end-to-end — at any merchant, in any lighting.

Key Features

5 Core Verticals

01

Sub-second face authorisation with continuous visual feedback during the scan.

02

Trust scaffolding — encrypted, biometric-stored, never shared — surfaced at every step.

03

Accessible fallback (PIN, OTP, card-tap) reachable from every screen.

04

Receipt and transaction history built into the same flow, not buried in a menu.

05

Multi-merchant onboarding tuned for ten-second setup at a new till.
